Campaigning for Hemel Hempstead and the Villages

Grayson says 'a precious part of our local heritage could be lost'

At the Dacorum Borough Council meeting on Wednesday 25 February, the Liberal Democrat opposition group proposed an alternative budget which included reducing the Paper Trail's annual rent from £30,000 to a peppercorn rent of £1. Conservative councillors claimed that reducing the rent would make 'not a jot' of difference to the Paper Trail's finances.

Dr. Richard Grayson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hemel Hempstead says: 'Anybody who has followed the campaign to save the Paper Trail will know that this is nonsense and that it would greatly assist the Paper Trail's efforts to secure a long-term future'

'It is a great shame that neither the Conservative-run Council, nor the two remaining Labour councillors supported this practical plan. They really should be doing more to back such a precious part of our local heritage - and realising the value of £30,000'.
