Solar Panels

The Council owned Hemel Leisure Centre run by Everyone Active last year won a grant from Sports England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund to install solar panels on the roof of the leisure centre.

In March this year 762 solar panels were installed and they are now generating electricity.

Thanks to the sunshine they made more electricity than the leisure centre needed so the surplus has been sold to the electricity grid which means local homes are reviewing some of their power from their own sports centre!

Cllr Caroline Smith-Wright Lib Dem Portfolio Holder responsible for combating climate change said “I’m incredibly proud to share this exciting news. The installation of these solar panels marks an ambitious step forward in our mission to cut carbon emissions and create a greener Dacorum. Not only will they help Everyone Active keep our much-loved swimming pool running efficiently, but they’ll also generate clean, renewable energy for the wider community. It’s a win for people and the planet alike, and just the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
